Brunson, Bridges, and Jackson Jr. Lead the Way
LAS VEGAS – Jalen Brunson led the way with 22 points for the United States while Jaren Jackson Jr. added 12 points and 5 rebounds in a victory over Spain in an exhibition match ahead of the FIBA World Cup. Mikal Bridges also chipped in 12 points for the US, who took control of the game with a big fourth quarter.
Team USA displayed its offensive firepower in an 83-76 win over Spain, the squad's final exhibition before it heads to Tokyo for the 2021 Olympics. The US led by just 4 points at the end of the third quarter, but they outscored Spain 23-14 in the fourth to secure the victory.
Brunson was efficient from the field, shooting 9-of-15, while Jackson Jr. was a force on the boards, pulling down 5 rebounds in addition to his 12 points. Bridges was also solid, hitting 4-of-9 from the field and adding 4 rebounds.
Spain was led by Ricky Rubio, who had 15 points and 7 assists. Marc Gasol also had a solid game, scoring 13 points and grabbing 7 rebounds. However, it wasn't enough to overcome the balanced scoring and strong defense of the United States.
The US will now head to Tokyo for the 2021 Olympics, where they will be looking to win their fourth consecutive gold medal. They will open their Olympic campaign on July 25 against France.
